Tips for Sellers in Wisconsin’s End of 2018 Housing Market
The October Home Sales Report from the Wisconsin Realtors Association states that home inventory continues to decline, driving home prices up.
This situation creates two types of opportunities. First, we see sellers who are enjoying growing equity and finally in position to get out of underwater mortgages. On the flip side, home buyers are making highly-competitive offers on homes to keep from losing out to other bidders.
While it may be a seller’s market, it is still important to present your home in the best possible light, especially when selling in the winter. Here are three tips for sellers in the upcoming months:
- Remain as flexible as possible with timelines. Often, buyers during the holiday season are moving for a specific reason such as a job change. They will likely have a firm start date or it’s possible they have been living in temporary housing they are anxious to get out of. Accommodating the buyer’s needs could help expedite the sale of your home at this time of year.
- Make sure your home’s exterior is looking its best. During the winter months when landscaping is dormant, more attention will be paid to the actual structure of your home rather than it’s surroundings. Take care of any deferred maintenance prior to listing, and add outdoor lighting to spotlight your home when it’s dark.
- Put up a few tasteful holiday decorations. They can give your house a little extra charm and allow buyers to picture their family spending the holidays in the home. However, be careful not to go overboard as some buyers may find too many decorations distracting.
